What Makes a Successful Team?

For any project to be successful, you need a strong team. The contribution of each team member can increase the success of your output tremendously. And team building is necessary if you want to prevent cost and time overruns.

Communicate clearly

Projects can fail if the top management does not convey important decisions and changes to the people in lower order. It often leads to a delay in project or unnecessarily cost more money.

As a manager, part of your work is to make sure that you have regular meetings with the department heads every week. Be on top of the project by discussing the approval problems, resource crunch and cost management. Ensure the department heads give a status report on the project in the meeting. This way, each and every member is on the same page where the project is concerned.

Another effective way to successful team building is to listen actively to the ideas of your juniors and clarify any doubts raised about the project.

Resolve conflicts amicably

Each department has a different approach to the project. If it does not deliver the result, there will be clashes and arguments which could threaten the implementation of the project. Keep your ears to the walls and ensure you solve the conflicts.

As part of team building, organise open house sessions where any complaints against a team member can be raised and sorted out immediately. Reach a compromise in such a way that both the parties are still interested in working together for the project.

Team building exercises should promote camaraderie. Activities like flip the duck, links in my chain and others are good form of team exercise.
